1. The walk stretches between Apollo Bay and the Twelve Apostles. It takes hours and hours to drive along the Great Ocean Road, so it will take you days and days to complete the Great Ocean Walk. The Great Ocean Road celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2019 and, although it faces many challenges, it remains one of the world’s great road trips.Starting in Victoria’s surf capital, Torquay, 105km southwest of Melbourne, it hugs the wild, beautiful coastline, often literally just a few metres from the Southern Ocean, for 245km to Allansford, near Warrnambool.
The trip from Adelaide to Warrnambool will take around 7 to 8 hours (the distance is approx. 620km or so) via the Riddoch and Princess highway. This is a solid days drive in any ones language. I would consider staying overnight at Warrnambool if time permitted checking out Tower Hill Nature reserve and Port Fairy.
Answer 1 of 6: Hi, My wife, 2 children (ages 3 & 5) and I would travel to Melbourne in the first week of Jan 2013. We hope to drive up Great Ocean Road (GOR) during the week. It is a lot of driving to do the Great Ocean Road in one day. 2 days is ok and 3 is even better. You can do the ferry two ways, one on the way too the GOR by driving to Sorrento and then catching it across to Queenscliff, or at the end of the trip by going from Q to Sorrento and back to Melb.
