The bulk of the engine range is similar to the 2008’s smaller 208 sibling. It kicks off with a 100hp 1.2-litre PureTech engine, which is paired to a six-speed manual gearbox only. In reality it’s all you really need. The 100hp engine is quiet unless really stretched, and the presence of a sixth gear means it’s relaxed at higher speeds. The 3008 diesel engine line-up was simplified with the introduction of a new 1.5-litre unit producing 130hp and 300Nm of torque – replacing the BlueHDi 100, 120 and 150hp units in one fell swoop. In six-speed manual form, this diesel will complete the 0-62mph dash in 10.8 seconds, while the EAT8 automatic version is slower at 11.5 seconds. But, everyone seems also to agree on the reliability of the 1.2 PureTech 130hp engine with its disastrous belt. It’s pretty hard to find information from Peugeot about that belt thing, but I read somewhere that they replaced / redesigned the belt in 2022, so cars equipped with engines from 2022 / 2023 should have a more reliable engine? The front-wheel-drive 308 offers a range of petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrains; the 1.2-litre Puretech petrol unit produces 130bhp, while the 1.5-litre BlueHDi diesel follows IYQYit.
