The watch will in the default configuration attempt an automatic altimeter calibration during sleep if connected to a phone. It will ask the phone for coordinates (it will not use its own GPS), and then it will look up the coordinates in the internal DEM map to find the map altitude for those coordinates.
Keep one eye on the altimeter. its still creepy after many many years and its garmin masters cannot regulate its behaviour. watch out for irregular behaviour like when its starting to cheat on you. You can fall off the cliff after calibration. after calibration. Please garmin sort this. 60mtrs drop it was present in my old fenix 6 solar on

Thanks for the responses, initially by amending the setting to altimeter the altimeter started working but the barometer stopped (understandably having read the instructions that you kindly provided) I then set it to Auto and recalibrated the altimeter using GPS and it looks like both the altimeter and barometer are locked up as neither have moved for the last hour.
Fenix 5 Plus Altimeter. AndyZu over 1 year ago. With my Fenix 5 Plus, the altimeter no longer works. First the values for an activity were no longer correct (deviation of 1000 hm and more) and now no height is displayed at all. I did the reset and factory settings. Is there a solution? Thanks in advance Andy. A dedicated community for Garmin
You got a serious issue with your altimeter. Do you got the same kind of behavior with your barometer ? (If yes it could be an hardware problem and you are under warranty, if not it could be a widget problem hence the resetting) Have you try the last beta 3.55 ? Yes, the barometer has problems too!
It's lot lighter in fact; the 945 is 50g compared to 86g for the Fenix 5 Plus and 94g for the Marq Athlete. That lack of weight plus its slim build – the 945 is 13.7mm thick, which is slightly
Hi, like so many others, my Fenix 5S had the sticky start/stop button problem. I tried the soap/warm water method many a time but it never really solved the problem. Seeing that my watch is out of warranty…. Just outside of warranty, and mine is now so bad, I had to do something. Garmin wants $160 to get a refurb replacement.
